The Benefits of Employee
Internet Management Software

CurrentWare’s web filtering and employee monitoring software offers advanced features for tracking and controlling employee behavior on company devices

Enforce Computer Use Policies

Get Alerts of Policy Violations
An employee computer use policy helps ensure that your team members are aware of their responsibilities, but it’s not enough.

To make your policies truly effective you need employee computer tracking software to detect unwanted computer activity.

BrowseReporter’s automated computer activity alerts make it the best employee monitoring software for enforcing company policies. These alerts notify you when employees are visiting high-risk, inappropriate, or unproductive websites.

Maintain Evidence of Misuse
Employee monitoring software bolsters your policy enforcement by providing you with auditable records of employee computer activity.

BrowseReporter’s database is protected against tampering by your end-users; evidence of employee computer activity and lost productivity remains intact even when they use private browsing modes or clear their internet history.

Find Bandwidth Hogs On Your Network

Reduce Operational Costs
Are bandwidth upgrades necessary, or is an employee’s misuse of the internet what’s causing bottlenecks?

With BrowseReporter’s bandwidth usage reports you can identify which employees are consuming excessive amounts of bandwidth.

Find out if your organization is making optimal use of its current bandwidth before investing in expensive networking upgrades.

Improve Network Performance
Monitoring bandwidth usage provides a baseline performance metric that you can use to detect outliers in network traffic.

With this data you can identify productivity-draining bandwidth hogs in your network, then block them to reduce unnecessary strain on your network’s available bandwidth.

Manage Employee Productivity

Coach Underperforming Employees
While occasional web surfing might be okay so long as employees are getting their work done, workplace internet abuse can be a serious detriment to productivity.

Using employee productivity tracking software provides employees, managers, and HR with a benchmark for Employee Performance Improvement Plans (PIP).

Empower Self-Management
The use of employee computer monitoring software does not have to be an exclusively top-down approach. With BrowseReporter you can give your employees on-demand access to their productivity and computer activity data.

This approach to employee monitoring will foster happier, more creative, and more productive teams by empowering them to self-manage their productivity.

Optimize Work Processes
Are deadlines being missed because your employees are being interrupted by meetings, becoming sidetracked by other tasks, or because they’re consistently blocked by other departments?

The productivity insights provided by employee computer monitoring software allows you to identify inefficiencies so you can optimize work processes.

Protect Your Business From Liability Risks

Detect Software Piracy
Employers have a responsibility to prevent the use of unlicensed software in their organization.

Employee application monitoring software shows you what software is being used on work computers, providing an early warning of piracy in the workplace.

Stop Workplace Harassment
Allowing employees to access pornographic, hateful, or crude websites at work is a serious liability risk.

Don’t risk creating a hostile work environment. Restrict and monitor employee computer activity to ensure that company resources are being used appropriately.

Meet Compliance Requirements
Controlling internet use is an essential part of securing your network against web-based threats.

Without critical security controls in place an employee can infect your network with malware or transfer sensitive data to unauthorized file storage sites.

Improve Visibility of Remote Workers

Compare Productivity of Remote & In-Office Employees
Without visibility into workflows, how can you be certain that your employees are as productive working from home as they are in the office?

Using BrowseReporter’s productivity by location reports you can analyze employee productivity trends to see where they thrive and verify attendance.

Praise High Performing Employees & Identify Shirkers
Many leaders worry that their employees will be distracted, or worse—actively disengaged—while they work from home.

Remote employee monitoring software is a valuable tool for identifying poor performers, improving visibility into employee productivity, and providing high-performers an opportunity to demonstrate their efforts.

Provide Opportunities for Flexible Employee Schedules
How do you keep a pulse on the activity levels of your remote workforce when everyone is so disconnected from each other?

Remote employee monitoring software provides you with a clear picture of when employees are working on their computers so you can rest assured that they are engaged no matter how they like to schedule their time.

Save Money on Unused Software

Underutilized software costs businesses a staggering $34 billion per year! With BrowseReporter’s software usage analysis features, you can track software usage in your company and uncover opportunities to reduce software licensing.

  • Track Windows software usage and user activity to detect the use of unsafe or unproductive programs.
  • Use the Windows software usage reports to improve software usage tracking in the workplace and better manage software licenses
  • Monitor application usage in your network for suspicious and unfamiliar applications.
  • Use the drilldown dashboard to find out the utilization rate of specific pieces of software

Tips for Combining
Web Filtering and Employee Monitoring Software

Should you block a website or monitor its usage? In this section you will learn the best practices for using internet management software to restrict internet access and monitor employees in the workplace.

When to Use Internet Filtering

Internet filtering is a proactive method of managing employee internet use – access to particular websites or categories is prevented entirely.

Internet filtering is best used for blocking websites that employees should never be allowed to access.

  • Block web content categories that are inappropriate for the workplace such as pornography, hate, violence, and virus-infected sites.
  • Restrict access to unproductive websites that are consistently distracting your employees such as social media, news, and shopping sites.
  • Create a safer workplace by preventing access to materials that may be used as tools for harassment (inappropriate images, gag websites, etc.).

BrowseReporter user activity monitoring software from CurrentWare

When to Use Employee Monitoring Software

Employee monitoring is a reactive method of managing employee internet use—the internet use of employees is collected into reports, allowing you to address browsing habits after it’s collected by the monitoring software.

Employee monitoring software is best used to track internet browsing habits without explicitly preventing access to websites.

  • Provide employees with the autonomy to browse the internet freely while keeping track of web browsing to ensure it’s not impacting their productivity.
  • Review employee web activity reports to identify high-risk or inappropriate websites that have not yet been added to the block list of the web filter.
  • Track bandwidth use to identify users that are causing network latency with HD video streaming and excessive file downloads.

How to Combine the
Two Solutions

Using workplace internet filtering and monitoring software in tandem provides optimal control over employee internet use.

You can selectively monitor or block websites based on their impact and the level of autonomy you would like to provide.

  1. Use time-based filtering to allow access to distracting websites during off-hours times such as breaks.
  2. Set alerts to notify you when employees are visiting unproductive websites being too frequently throughout the day.
  3. Selectively restrict content categories based on business needs, such as allowing the marketing department to access social media.

Who Uses Employee Monitoring Software?

Employee monitoring software is used by a wide variety of industries. It is most commonly found in industries that are required to monitor employee computer activity for data security compliance purposes. Examples of common industries include financial services, government, and health care.

These industries require a monitoring solution for advanced awareness and control over employee computer use to ensure compliance with security and data privacy laws such as HIPAA.

What Are the Benefits of Employee Monitoring Software?

  • Improve Productivity: Employee computer activity data provides managers with the insights they need to make informed productivity management decisions. This includes identifying disengaged employees, balancing workloads, and optimizing work processes.
  • Manage Risks: Monitoring employee computer activity helps limit legal liability and reduces cybersecurity risks by ensuring that acceptable use policies are being followed.
  • Save Money: Employee computer monitoring software provides valuable workforce analytics data. This data can be used to reduce software wastage, detect time theft, and improve operational efficiency.

Is Employee Monitoring Software Legal?

The legality of employee monitoring software depends entirely on regulations and other legislation that are specific to the organization, its industry, and the jurisdiction of its employees.

The recommended best practice is to have employees read and sign a technology in the workplace policy where they acknowledge that they are aware that their activity is being monitored.

An example of mandated employee consent can be seen in Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which requires that employers inform employees that they are being monitored in the workplace, why they are being monitored, how their data will be used, and the methods that will be used to monitor them (security cameras, employee monitoring software, etc).
