Company History

Since 2003 CurrentWare has been a Canadian software company that provides solutions for a wide array of government
and private organizations including schools, hospitals, libraries, and for-profit businesses.

CurrentWare’s customers improve their user productivity, data security, and business intelligence with advanced awareness
and control over how technology is used in their organization.

2003 It all started with BrowseControl

Our story begins in 2003 with CurrentWare founders Divyesh Lakhani and Jay Lakhani launching BrowseControl as CurrentWare’s very first product. Our flagship product has led us since its release, providing our customers with the ability to control web browsing on company computers.

Since 2003 the internet has grown to a point where it has become involved in all aspects of our lives. Its potential in the workplace is limitless and even back then business owners knew that they needed a solution to protect their network against the ever-expanding internet.

2004 BrowseReporter is Launched

In 2004 we expanded our product line to include BrowseReporter, a tool that allows our customers to monitor and generate reports on how their employees were using the internet in the workplace.

BrowseReporter was the perfect complement to BrowseControl. Many employers wanted to continue restricting clearly objectionable websites while giving their employees greater autonomy over their use of the internet as a whole.

BrowseReporter allowed employees the freedom to use the internet freely while giving their employers the peace of mind that abuse of the internet could be reported and addressed.

2007 The Suite is Complete

The launch of BrowseReporter ushered in a new era of expansion for CurrentWare’s product line, with us releasing two new products in rapid succession 2 years later: AccessPatrol and enPowerManager.

AccessPatrol was a reaction to the rise of USB sticks, as sensitive company data could now easily be stolen from work. AccessPatrol helped to protect our customers against data breaches and intellectual property theft by blocking employees from using USB ports without authorization.

enPowerManager was born out of the need to combat rising electrical costs. It provided our customers with an easy and affordable way to remotely control the power schedules of company computers. Thanks to enPowerManager our customers have saved countless dollars on wasted energy usage caused by employees forgetting to shut down their computers before leaving the office.

2021 The Web console is Launched

The introduction of the Web Console in February 2021 revolutionized how CurrentWare was managed.

Rather than installing multiple CurrentWare Consoles on each administrator’s computer, the Web Console allowed admins to remotely connect to the CurrentWare administrative console from the convenience of a web browser.

The technology behind the Web Console opened new capabilities that weren’t possible on the legacy desktop console, allowing for greater feature developments.

Currentware FAQ

What Is Employee Monitoring Software?

Employee monitoring software is an app that tracks employee computer activity. The goal of employee computer monitoring software is to improve productivity and efficiency by using activity data to better understand how a workforce operates. This data is used to track time spent on projects, identify time spent on unproductive activities, and increase the visibility of a remote workforce.

Who Uses Employee Monitoring Software?

Employee computer monitoring software is used by a wide variety of industries. It is most commonly found in industries that are required to monitor employee computer activity for data security compliance purposes. Examples of common industries include financial services, government, and health care.

What Are the Benefits of Employee Monitoring Software?

  • Improve Productivity: Employee computer activity data provides managers with the insights they need to make informed productivity management decisions. This includes identifying disengaged employees, balancing workloads, and optimizing work processes.
  • Manage Risks: Monitoring employee computer activity helps limit legal liability and reduces cybersecurity risks by ensuring that acceptable use policies are being followed.
  • Save Money: Employee computer monitoring software provides valuable workforce analytics data. This data can be used to reduce software wastage, detect time theft, and improve operational efficiency.

Is Employee Monitoring Software Legal?

The legality of employee monitoring depends entirely on regulations and other legislation that are specific to the organization, its industry, and the jurisdiction of its employees.

The recommended best practice is to have employees read and sign a technology in the workplace policy where they acknowledge that they are aware that their activity is being monitored.

An example of mandated employee consent can be seen in Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which requires that employers inform employees that they are being monitored in the workplace, why they are being monitored, how their data will be used, and the methods that will be used to monitor them (security cameras, employee computer monitoring software, etc).

Does CurrentWare Have Access To Employee Data?

No, CurrentWare cannot access your employee’s computer monitoring data. CurrentWare’s software does not send your user’s computer usage data to CurrentWare. They are installed and managed by your organization.

All of the data collected by CurrentWare’s software is stored on a database that is installed in your organization’s data center or cloud service provider.
