Track computer activities during office hours

Track computer activities during office hours

BrowseReporter has a feature called Tracking Scheduler that enables you to schedule specific tracking times. Collecting information at all times may be unnecessary. Therefore, this tool is useful when you want to monitor and track employees’ usage during business hours only.

Through the URL Tracking Scheduler, you can schedule the date and time range for collecting Internet browsing activity and application usage data. Outside of these schedules, no data will be collected. This helps to maintain the database size. It will also eliminate “noisy” data. Below is an example of how to use the URL Tracking Scheduler.

Scenario: Track URLs only during work hours

Predefined work hours: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
BrowseReporter will track Internet activities only during work hours.

  1. Open the BrowseReporter solution from the left-hand side of the Currentware Web Console.
  2. Launch the URL Tracking Scheduler by selecting More Options  button from the menu and choosing Tracking Scheduler from the drop down menu.
  3. Click on the New Schedule button.
  4. Choose if you want to track URLs & Applications or URLs/Application usage.
  5. Select Daily.
  6. Set the Start time at 9:00 AM and the end time as 5:00 PM.
  7. Click on Add Schedule.
  8. Click on Enable Scheduler in the top right corner.
  9. BrowseReporter will now only track the Internet activities of the computers or users in this group during the scheduled time.

Help! Why is my “Tracking Scheduler” grayed out?

In BrowseReporter, the Tracking Scheduler feature is only available in PC mode. You are able to setup the tracking schedules on groups of PCs.

To do this:
1. On the left-hand side of the web console open BrowseReporter
2. Select “PC” under Select Mode.
3. The Tracking Scheduler can then be set by going to Manage > … > Tracking Scheduler.

For instance BrowseControl or AccessPatrol, has PC/User modes to process how you would manage block/allow policies. However, BrowseReporter modes are strictly just management views. The reporting data is pulled for both PCs and Users. In addition the data reported back has both the PC and User data.
