Configure Firewall Rule for Remote Client Install

The client computer’s Windows Firewall may be blocking the setup file from being sent. Below are some recommendations for configuring the Firewall to permit the remote installation of the CurrentWare client.

Option #1: Turn OFF Windows Firewall temporarily

  1. Go to Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Firewall.
  2. Select Turn Windows Firewall on or off on the left hand side.
  3. Turn OFF Windows Firewall for Private and Public network.
  4. After the CurrentWare Client is successfully installed on the remote computer, you can turn the Windows Firewall back on.

If you cannot turn off the Windows Firewall temporarily, please proceed to option 2.


Option #2: Create two inbound rules to allow file sharing and RPC (Remote Procedure Call)

Rule #1: Allow RPC Dynamic ports

  1. Go to Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Firewall.
  2. Select Advanced Settings.
  3. Select Inbound Rules.
  4. Click New Rule to create a rule.
  5. Select Custom and click Next.

  6. Select All Programs. Click Next.
  7. Select Protocol type TCP.
  8. Select local port RPC Dynamic Ports. Click Next.

  9. Select Any IP Addresses option for Which local IP Addresses this rule apply to?
  10. Select These IP Addresses option for Which remote IP Addresses this rule apply to?
  11. Click Add and enter IP Address of the CurrentWare Console machine. Click Next.

  12. Select Allow the connection.
  13. Select Private profile** and click Next.
  14. Enter the name CW Remote Client Install.
  15. Click Finish to save the rule.

Rule #2: Enable File and Printer Sharing (SMB-In) Inbound rule

  1. Go to Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Firewall.
  2. Select Advanced Settings.
  3. Select Inbound Rules.
  4. Find the rule File and Printer Sharing (SMB-In) in the list.
  5. Right click on it and Enable Rule.
  6. Enable this rule for all 3 profiles (Public, Domain and Private).
