My computer is not showing up on the CurrentWare Console. (Client Connection Issue)

There are a few possible causes that will prevent your CurrentWare client from connecting to the CurrentWare Console.

  1. You did not apply your licenses to your new computers.
  2. Your Client is connected to an invalid IP address or Computer name.
  3. Your Firewall is blocking the client connection

Is CurrentWare Compatible with Windows 10?

What is the CurrentWare Console?

The CurrentWare Console is a centralized console that houses our CurrentWare Solutions, which includes BrowseControl, BrowseReporter AccessPatrol and enPowerManager.

Does the CurrentWare Server need to be installed on a Server?

No, the CurrentWare Server is not restricted to a Server computer.It can be installed any other Windows operating systems.

Do my users know that I am controlling or tracking them?

The CurrentWare Client runs in stealth mode. The client is not listed under the installed program.

Can my users stop the CurrentWare Client?

No, the CurrentWare Client cannot be uninstalled without the Admin's password

Which operating systems does CurrentWare support?

CurrentWare Server, Console and Clients are supported on:

  • Windows 7,
  • Windows 8,
  • Windows 10,
  • Server 2008 and
  • Server 2012

Both 32-bit and 64-bit platforms are supported

How long is the free trial?

The trial is fully functional. You can install it on 10 computers. The trial will last for 14 days.

Installation

Is it compatible with Terminal Servers and Virtual Machines?

Yes! CurrentWare works on Windows Terminal Servers and virtual machines running Windows OS.

Can I install CurrentWare on a single standalone computer (for kiosk or remote workers)?

Yes! You can install CurrentWareon a single standalone computer by installing all the components on the single computer – the CurrentWare Server, Console, the Solutions and the CurrentWare Client.

I just installed the CurrentWare Client on my computer and they are not showing up on the CurrentWare Console. (Client Connection Issue)

There are a few possible causes that will prevent your CurrentWare client from connecting to the CurrentWare Console.

I have remote workers working at home or at a different location. Will CurrentWare still work for me?

Yes! You can connect the CurrentWare Client over the Internet to the public IP address of your CurrentWare Server network. You will need to configure your firewall or router to port forward CurrentWare traffic to the CurrentWare Server computer on the network.

Can I deploy the CurrentWare client from a Central Location?

There are three ways to deploy the CurrentWare Client to your targeted computers

  1. Remote Client Install
  2. Deploy by Command Line
  3. Deploy by .MSI (Active Directory Group Policy)
  4. Deploy by Batch File (Active Directory Group Policy)

The Remote Client Install failed and return the error messages Access Denied or RPC server is unavailable.

What ports need to be opened on my Firewall?

During the installation, CurrentWare will add the CurrentWare ports to your Windows Firewall's exception list. CurrentWare uses the following ports:

  • 8990 TCP/UDP - Console Port
  • 8991 TCP/UDP - Client Port
  • 8992 TCP/UDP - Data Upload
  • 3050 TCP/UDP - Firebird Database

Uninstall

How can I uninstall the CurrentWare Server and Console?

To uninstall the CurrentWare, go to Control Panel > Uninstall a Programs > Uninstall CurrentWare

How can I uninstall the CurrentWare Client?

From the CurrentWare Console, right click on a computer, select Client Service > Uninstall.

What will I get when I purchase CurrentWare?

You will receive a permanent license key along with 12 months of free upgrade and free support by phone or email.

Do I have to pay for the product every 12 months?

Your license key is a permanent key and therefore you only pay a one time fee. This includes 12 months of upgrades and support. After 12 months, in order to continue with upgrades and support, you have to purchase an Annual Upgrade and Maintenance Plan (AUP) at a nominal rate.

Note: If you purchased the Category Filtering add-on to BrowseControl, there is a small annual subscription fee for this service. This is to keep the category database updated daily.

What does 12 months of free maintenance include?

12 months free maintenance entitles you to free upgrades and unlimited telephone and e-mail support.

I upgraded my CurrentWare to the latest version, do I need a new license key? (Licensing)

Depending on which version you upgraded from, you may need to request a new license key from our licensing team.

  • Upgrading from a Major version (example: v4.X to v5.X) - Yes, you will need to register your software with a new license key
  • Upgrading from a Minor version (example: v5.0 to v5.1) - Yes, you will need to register your software with a new license key
  • Upgrading from a Build version (example: v5.1.0 to v5.1.1) - No, your existing key will work
BrowseControl Web Filter

What is BrowseControl Web Filter?

BrowseControl is a software used to control the Internet access and block applications from running on your Windows computers.

What is the URL Filter?

URL filter allow you to control the websites that your managed computers can go to.

Allowed List: BrowseControl has the functionality to allow access to certain web sites when the Internet connection has been turned OFF. This feature, referred to as the Allowed List.

Blocked List: BrowseControl has the functionality to prevent access to certain web sites when the Internet connection has been turned ON. This feature, referred to as the Blocked List.

My users cannot access a website that is on the Allowed list?

Some websites may contain data that needs to be retrieved from an external sources (images, javascripts, cdn and etc).

In both cases, make sure you have added the extra domains in the Allowed list to allow the external websites to be displayed. Check out this tip on how to use Chrome to identify blocked URLs and add them to the Allowed list

Is it possible to get around the Application Blocker by renaming the exe file?

No. BrowseControl’s Application Blocker uses the Original File Name property or a checksum of a file to block applications.

Does BrowseControl work with my proxy server?

Yes. Make sure your proxy port is added to BrowseControl's Port Filter along with the permission set to "HTTP Filter".

Is BrowseControl compatible with Windows 10?

BrowseControl is fully compatible with Windows 10's Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge browser.

How do I allow Mapquest on the Allowed list?

Can I restrict access to the Internet but still allow access to our local Intranet?

Yes you can allow access to your local Intranet page and still deny Internet access. To do so, enter in the hostname or IP address of the Intranet page into the Allowed List.

How can I block certain file types from being downloaded or viewed?

Add the file you want to block in the Download Filter.

I'm sure that I've configured everything correctly but BrowseControl is still not blocking Internet access on my client computers?

There is a small chance that the Client was not installed correctly. Learn how to diagnose BrowseControl issue by using the SPorder tool.

BrowseReporter Internet Monitor

What is BrowseReporter?

BrowseReporter is a powerful web-monitoring tool that allows you to monitor the Internet browsing activities and application usage of your employees or students.

Which Internet browser does BrowseReporter support?

BrowseReporter supports the following popular Internet browsers:

  • Internet Explorer
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Google Chrome

Does BrowseReporter track application usage?

Yes - it tracks all the active applications that are running on your computers. There are 4 reports for application usage.

Does BrowseReporter track private/inprivate/incognito sessions?

Yes it does!

I am not getting any URLs in my reports

Make sure the CurrentWare Client is connected - If you’re CurrentWare client is not connected, you may not have the latest data needed to generate the report.

I am not getting any Bandwidth activities in my reports

Your antivirus may be blocking BrowseReporter from tracking bandwidth. Add C:\Windows\System32\drivers\npf.sys, cwagent.exe and cwclient.exe to the antivirus' exclusion list

How is the URL data affected when I delete a computer?

When a computer is deleted from the CurrentWare Console, then the data corresponding to the specific computer will be deleted as well. Deleting a User will delete only the data pertaining to that user.

If my user deletes their Internet history, will BrowseReporter still track it?

Yes it will. BrowseReporter tracks the data into its proprietary database. Even if the user deletes their browsing history, BrowseReporter will still upload the activities to the server.

Can BrowseReporter retrieve my user's Internet history?

BrowseReporter starts tracking after the CurrentWare Client is installed. It cannot retrieve Internet history if the client is not installed.

While exporting my report to .PDF, I encountered an error message - "Operation not yet implemented"?

The Microsoft Update KB3102429 (Nov. 2015) is causing an issue with Crystal Report. To fix this issue, update your Windows with the KB3102429 update. Click here to learn more about this issue.

Can I generate a report for specific computers or users?

Yes, Click on the Run Report button on the right hand side of the CurrentWare Console under the BrowseReporter tab. Specify the computers or users under the “PCs & Users” option.

Can I generate a report for a particular time interval?

Yes, the following date/time options are available:

  • All
  • Today
  • Yesterday
  • Last 7 days
  • Last month
  • Custom Range.

Can I Export/Save a Report? What formats can the reports be exported to?

Yes, you can export, save and print a report. The formats can be exported to the following formats:

  • PDF
  • RPT
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Microsoft word
  • Rich Text Format

How do I exclude specific websites from showing up on the reports?

Click on the “Exclusion List” button under the BrowseReporter Tab to bring up a window that allows you to input URLs that you want to exclude from your reports.

How much data does BrowseReporter keep?

BrowseReporter does not delete data automatically. It will keep your data forever until you delete them manually. There is a built-in tool to delete data after a certain period.

How much storage do I need for BrowseReporter?

BrowseReporter uses very little hard drive space. BrowseReporter approximately consumes 1 MB per user per one month of tracked Internet activities.

Remote Screen Capture is not working?

Ensure port 1024 TCP/UDP is not blocked on your firewall

AccessPatrol Endpoint Security

What is AccessPatrol?

AccessPatrol is an easy-to-use Device management software that can readily be utilized by non-technical users.

Which devices can be controlled by AccessPatrol?

AccessPatrol can control the following devices:

  • CD/DVD drives
  • Floppy drives
  • USB Storage devices (such as thumb drives, memories cards and USB sticks)
  • Bluetooth adapters
  • WiFi adapter
  • External hard drive
  • FireWire
  • Serial port
  • Parallel port

Will the blocked devices be accessible when the AccessPatrol server is not running?

The AccessPatrol Client retains data on the client side. If the server is unavailable, the permissions will still applying to the client computers.

If you want to turn this feature off, right click on the group > Client Settings. Uncheck the option Apply block settings when server is unavailable. If this option is unchecked, when the server becomes unavailable, the client computers will not be blocked.

Can I allow my IT staff to use their devices on the computers?

Yes, you can add their devices to the allowed list. Any device on the allowed list will gain exclusive privilege from AccessPatrol. Devices on the allowed list will have full access on any of the user’s computers.

Which users can AccessPatrol block?

You can block any users on the network, including administrator, power users, guests, and etc.

enPowerManager Energy Saver

What is enPowerManager?

enPowerManager provides an effective method for energy management across an enterprise. With a simple click of the mouse, computers can be remotely shutdown or booted. This function can also be scheduled to force a shutdown of the computers at a specific time or schedule a boot of the computers at the beginning of a work day.

Can I set up a scheduler to shutdown or boot up my computers?

You can set up a shutdown scheduler that will shut down or boot up your computers at specific time of the day.

Can I send a message to the users when the computer is shutting down?

A shutdown message can be customized by the administrator. The user will see this message before their computers shut down.

If my user is still working on their computer, will enPowerManager shut down the computer?

You can set enPowerManager to shut down the computer only if it is idle.

In what ways can enPowerManager control the power status of my laptop?

Under advanced policies, you can set up enPowerManager to perform different tasks when a laptop is running on battery or plugged into a power outlet.

My computer is not booting up
