Best Practice Guide for BrowseReporter
BrowseReporter is an Internet tracking tool that allows administrators to monitor the Internet activities of their users on the network. Follow this guide to understand the best practices for running BrowseReporter on your network.
1. Always change your CurrentWare Client Password
It is important that you change your CurrentWare Client password. Having a unique CurrentWare client password will increase the security of your software. You can set a new CurrentWare Client password during the client installation or change it anytime on the CurrentWare Console.
2. Set up your Upload Data Scheduler
Data needs to be uploaded from the CurrentWare Client to the CurrentWare Server in order for the administrator to generate Internet activity reports.
By default, the upload process is manual. When you have a Upload Data Scheduler set up, you are making the task of uploading data to the server automatic.
On the CurrentWare Console, click on the Upload Data Scheduler. I would recommend adding 3 daily upload schedules to ensure that data are being fed to the server on a daily basis.
3. Use the URL Exclusion List to remove unwanted data
The URL exclusion list is a good way to filter out websites that are authorized. You can filter out company authorized websites to focus on user activities on non-productive websites.
4. Use Email Reports to have reports sent to you
Setting up the email report to have a report sent to you by the end of the day or by the end of the week is a good way to review Internet activities on your network.
You must first create a profile under Run Report. A profile saves the report type and the other criteria in Run Report. This profile will then be used as a template for the reports that will be sent to you by email.
5. Track Internet Activities at specific times
Use the URL Tracking Scheduler to define the time period in which BrowseReporter will track your user’s activities. For example, you may not need to track Internet activities during breaks or lunch hours.
